Being busy.

I bet you're all expecting another scintillating forum topic you can chip in about. Especially since I didn't provide one last week. Well, the truth is that I've found myself with a lot less free time in the last month because I got another job. This is my fourth week. And I'm busy. Which in a somewhat lateral fashion suggested something I could talk about here.

We all want something to do. Some of us are capable of finding suitable things that keep our interest up and off we go. Some of us are not. Some of us can take on an idea of unknown shape and size and figure out what needs to happen in roughly what order and proceed to get from Start to Finish. Some of us need help drawing the map. Some of us like having repetitive tasks that must get done over and over again. Some of us get bored silly in that situation! It could be argued that we all need something to do, provided that we are sometimes allowed to do nothing for a while.

The beauty of my current job is that I have a vague list of what needs to happen next, a better grip of immediate priorities and only a little pressure to get things moving. Which is good, because I'm mostly installing and configuring Linux on servers, and re-arranging the server room to accomodate new equipment and upgrades. Which I like. Today, for instance, I spent half of the day moving rack mounts in and then putting a 5kVS UPS in place. It's basically the kind of thing that I know how to take from Start to Finish. I'm staying busy.

How do you guys keep busy? What kind of things does it involve? Are you good at finding big, long projects or do you prefer your piece gets handed to you? And feel free to talk about being busy outside work, too.
